Teachers/Staff, Coaches, Counselors, Parents, Youth Group Leaders, Adults Working with Youth
Learning Outcomes
These workshops will increase your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of mental health issues impacting students and families in rural communities. Workshop participants will develop skills and strategies and identify resources for effectively coping with these mental health challenges. Participants will have an opportunity to practice new skills and reflect on how these issues impact their students and their teaching.
Course Instruction for Credit
This course includes seven 90-minute synchronous online instruction sessions and homework assignments to be completed between sessions for a total of 16 hours of instruction. Additionally, participants will complete a survey to provide feedback to the presenters at the end of each session and suggest additional training topics for the future. Workshop participants who attend all 7 sessions and complete the homework assignments will earn One Continuing Education Credit through ISU’s Albion Center.
Complete seven one page reflection papers on the following topics:
- Reflect on your own experiences of ACEs and how your experience impacts your relationship with your students.
Reflect on the strategies you use to understand and regulate your emotions. - Develop a self-care plan that incorporates the elements to trauma stewardship.
Reflect on your use of social media and its impact on your mental health. - Write a safety plan for the case example.
Reflect on a recent loss and how you are coping with this loss. Identify one way that you can be an ally to students who identify with a community outside of the mainstream.
