Admission Requirements
Prerequisites
The program prefers applicants with a BA in History, but requires that applicants have at least 12 credits of previous undergraduate coursework in History.
The program prioritizes admission and funding for applicants whose academic interests align with the research specializations of the department’s faculty.
Full-time applications for fall admission submitted by March 31 will automatically be considered for GTA funding.
To Apply
To apply to the program, applicants must submit materials through the ISU Graduate School Application System. Should you have any difficulty using this system, please contact the History Department. The required materials are:
- Names and contact details for three references to provide letters of recommendation, at least two of which should be from individuals familiar with their academic work. The application system will automatically contact these references to upload a letter of recommendation.
- A statement of interest regarding their historical studies and academic goals. Particular attention should be given to explaining how these interests and goals relate to the program.
- Unofficial transcripts for all undergraduate coursework. Please provide transcripts for all of the undergraduate institutions you have attended. If you are accepted into the program, you will be asked to provide official transcripts.
- GRE Scores. The department will waive the GRE for applicants with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
