Diagnostic Medical Sonography students pass rigorous board exam on first attempt
Congratulations to all five Diagnostic Medical Sonography students in the Class of 2021, who passed their national physics board exam on the first attempt. This is an incredible accomplishment, as the average national first-time pass rate for the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation Exam (aka the physics boards) for the past 2 years is 73%. To have all five DMS students passing the SPI exam on the first attempt is really amazing and speaks to the quality of our program at Idaho State. Chelsie Wheatley is the sole teacher in the program. The other unique part about our students passing the exam is that most students in other sonography programs take the exam after they finish their program; at ISU we expect students to take and pass the SPI exam while still in the program. The SPI exam has been a barrier for some sonographers in the area, meaning some graduates of other sonography programs who were hired in SE Idaho had major struggles with the SPI exam or actually never ended up passing the exam, which caused them to lose jobs and leave them unfilled.
