POCATELLO – Idaho State University and community members are invited to attend the 2016 Mayor’s day of recognition for AmeriCorps set April 5 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Aid for Friends conference room, 214 E. Center St.
Pocatello’s Mayor Blad, Chubbuck’s Mayor England, Bannock Youth Foundation, Aid for Friends, Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency and Family Services Alliance will come together to recognize AmeriCorps. These organizations will also give short presentations about their organizations.
AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 900,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.2 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
From 4 to 6 p.m. participants will prepare 200 Ziplock bags that contain resource information to be distribute to individuals in need to ensure they're aware of the many facilities the community has to offer them.
ISU and community members are invited to attend and to bring an item to donate to one of the facilities, such as liquid laundry detergent, dish soap, pull-ups, shampoo and conditioner.
Participants can also drop the items off at the Institute of Rural Health on the ISU campus’s Graveley Hall.
