ISU audiology program has strong showing at national conference

The goal of the annual EHDI meeting is to enhance the implementation of comprehensive state-based programs that include screening, diagnostic evaluation and early intervention for young children with hearing loss and their families. Current research on these topics are also presented to those in attendance.

Two ISU Doctorate of Audiology students presented their studies to the professionals who gathered for the conference. Catie Conrad presented her research on Co-Morbidity of Hearing Loss and Autism-Interdisciplinary Collaboration. Kaley Ellis presented her findings on Culturally Appropriate Public Health Materials on Cytomegalovirus and Newborn Hearing Screenings for American Indian Communities in Utah. Gabe Bargen, ISU audiology associate professor, also had three podium presentations and two poster presentations on topics like the Idaho Community Collaboration Project and Idaho’s Regional Analysis of Family Support.

The students and faculty of the Doctorate of Audiology program at ISU have always been dedicated to early detection and treatment of hearing loss in children. Students are currently collecting items for a garage sale to benefit the local community. Money raised from the Student Academy of Audiology Garage Sale will be used to provide hearing aids for local children in need as well as other humanitarian work and educational opportunities for audiology students.

Donations are being accepted now through the end of March at the Communication Sciences and Disorders building (#68) by the ISU Holt Arena from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
