Rural rotations can be done locally, in Idaho, or outside of Idaho. Several rural training sites have been developed such that supervising physicians may assist in offering housing and other needs. The most frequently used Idaho rural sites include McCall, Sandpoint, Soda Springs, Rexburg, Montpelier, Malad, Rupert, Jerome and Arco.
Preparation for rural practice is fostered through rural rotations and hands-on practice management training. The cultural diversity of our patient population is enhanced by a Rural Perinatal Clinic serving migrant and seasonal farm worker families and by the care of Native Americans from Fort Hall Indian Reservation on our inpatient service.
The program encourages residents to perform rural rotations in areas where they may consider establishing a practice.
