Surgery

Two weeks of general surgery training is required in the first year. Residents will assist in surgery, be responsible for new patient evaluations and become involved in trauma codes in the emergency room. Residents have a one-on-one relationship with our community general surgeons. Residents act as their apprentices, do surgical evaluations in the emergency room, assist one-on-one in surgery, round on the surgery ward after surgery, and rapidly gain expertise in primary care surgical assessments.

Outpatient surgical procedures will be taught in the Family Medicine Center and in private surgeons' offices.
