Emergency Medicine

Residents help staff the emergency room at Portneuf Medical Center during peak hours. They see and triage patients themselves under the supervision of the emergency room doctors. There is ample opportunity for suturing, reduction of dislocations and fractures, casts and splint placement, assisting with plastic procedures and additional management of acutely ill medical and surgical patients.

One block is required in the first year and a 2nd block the second year. Residents emerge from these rotations competent to moonlight alone in outlying emergency rooms. These moonlighting experiences provide both excellent clinical challenges and extra income.
