Grandson of Legendary Civil Rights Activist Cesar Chavez on ISU Campus to support Farmworker Awareness Week
Monday, April 3, 5:30 p.m.
Bengal Theater - Pond Student Union, Pocatello Campus
Eduardo Chavez, director, speaker, podcast host and grandson of legendary civil rights activist César Chavez, will be on the ISU Pocatello Campus on Monday, April 3, as part of Farmworker Awareness Week and in honor of César Chavez Day.
“Hailing César,” a documentary directed by and featuring Chavez, will be shown at 5:30 p.m. in the Bengal Theater on the Pocatello Campus. A question and answer session with Chavez will follow the documentary.
The younger Chavez, who was born in 1991, did not know his famous grandfather, who visited the Rio Grande Valley frequently for rallies and marches with the UFW in San Juan before his death in 1993. The film captures Eduardo Chavez’s journey to connect with his grandfather’s legacy and addresses themes of labor rights, Latino empowerment, activism, and social justice.
Chavez is speaking as part of National Farmworkers Awareness Week and César Chavez Day, traveling to universities across the country to show his film and share his grandfather’s enduring legacy.
Chavez’s visit to Idaho State University is coordinated by the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), which provides financial assistance, support services, and cultural enrichment opportunities to students from migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds during their first year at Idaho State University. CAMP is located within ISU’s Access and Opportunity Programs, a federally funded program out of the U.S. Department of Education.
Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
