Submitted by Masoom Agrawal, Career Center
In an era when practical experience and real-world skills hold paramount importance for employers, the Career Path Internship (CPI) Program at ISU continues to excel in providing invaluable opportunities for students to obtain personal and professional experience while in school. Celebrating its 13th year, the CPI Program has become a cornerstone of success for students at ISU, enabling them to bridge the gap between academia and the workforce. Additionally, as of July 1, 2023, the program also offered a significant increase in wages, solidifying its commitment to supporting students' career aspirations.
The CPI Program, established in 2010, has been a catalyst for students pursuing their chosen fields of study. This unique paid internship initiative offers a hands-on experience that complements classroom learning, allowing participants to acquire practical skills and apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. By connecting students with internships aligned with their career goals, the program nurtures a pathway to success that makes a difference as students approach the completion of their education and begin seeking employment in their chosen fields.
Research has consistently testified to the numerous benefits of participating in internships. Students who engage in such experiential learning opportunities tend to become more effective employees, possess higher job placement rates, and earn higher wages compared to their peers who lack similar experiences. The CPI Program plays a pivotal role in facilitating these outcomes by providing a structured platform for students to apply their academic training to practical work environments.
And now the ISU CPI Program is gearing up for the year with its new wage structure. With the objective of recognizing the value of their contributions, the program is raising the wages for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. The new wage scale will be $13 per hour for undergraduates, $15 per hour for masters students, and $17 per hour for doctoral candidates. This progressive increase demonstrates ISU's commitment to rewarding the dedication and efforts of its students.
The rise in wages not only serves as an incentive for students to actively participate in internships but also addresses the financial challenges that students often face during their educational journey. By compensating interns at a competitive rate, the CPI Program enables students to focus on their professional development without compromising their financial well-being. This step undoubtedly reinforces the program's reputation for fostering student success and elevating the overall quality of education at ISU.
Moreover, the CPI Program actively collaborates with local organizations, ensuring that students have access to a diverse range of internships within the community. This mutually beneficial relationship allows students to contribute to the growth and development of local businesses while simultaneously gaining firsthand experience in their respective fields. The program's emphasis on local internships fosters strong ties between the university and the community, creating a positive impact on both fronts.
As we embark on a new chapter in the CPI Program's journey, the increased wages signal even more exciting opportunities for ISU students. The program's commitment to enhancing academic and professional careers remains unwavering, and the opportunities it provides are more valuable than ever. With each passing year, the CPI Program continues to solidify its status as a pivotal force in shaping successful graduates who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to the workforce.
