Chris Millburn
Chris Milburn is a fire captain in Southern California with an M.A. in Security Studies from Naval Postgraduate School. He has a lengthy career as a sensemaker, systems thinker, and public safety leader. He has served as a fire department public information officer and community education firefighter, directing the department’s disaster preparedness program and community emergency response team. Chris has authored various articles analyzing homeland security issues and societal trends and is a regular peer reviewer for a leading terrorism studies trade journal. His research and academic contributions focus on group conflict, ideologically motivated violence, and strategic communication, with a particular emphasis on insular cultures and group media analysis. He is an avid, lifelong musician and has used his music theory expertise in the analysis of groups’ symbolic rituals and media production.
