Chemical Safety - Laboratories (Chemical Hygiene)

ISU's Chemical Hygiene Plan has been established to protect faculty, staff, and students from the health & safety risks of chemicals in laboratories. This plan has been written to ensure compliance with the requirements in the OSHA standard: Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories, 29 CFR 1910.1450

Some key elements of the Chemical Hygiene Plan include requirements for Laboratory-Specific Safety Plans, chemical safety training, hazard identification, hazard controls, chemical storage, and emergency response.

The Chemical Hygiene Plan applies to all laboratories at ISU that handle and store hazardous chemicals, including research and teaching laboratories at all campus locations. Chemical safety requirements for non-laboratory areas at ISU are covered by ISU's Chemical Hazard Communication Plan.

Please contact EHSS at 208-282-2310 if you need assistance or have questions about the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
