Chemical Inventory

All areas on campus that use and store chemicals are required to maintain an accurate chemical inventory. ISU uses a software program called CampusOptics for this purpose. CampusOptics allows users to easily inventory their chemicals, access Safety Data Sheets (SDS), create door signage, and manage hazardous waste.

Chemical inventory is required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to ensure that workers are aware of the hazards of chemicals in their work areas. Maintaining an accurate inventory also ensures that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available for all chemicals that are present and is a laboratory safety best practice. EHSS may also be required to share this information with regulatory agencies and emergency first responders. Accurate inventories also help with hazardous waste management.

For information on how to get started with CampusOptics and enter or verify your chemical inventory, please visit the CampusOptics Webpage. EHSS can provide training on how to use the system upon request. Contact EHSS or submit a Training Request.
