In addition to the formal coursework noted in the IAGD curriculum, residents are required to complete a series of competencies. The successful completion of these competencies is through the completion, to program standards, of various procedures and case types. Completion of the competency statements is documented by completion of a portfolio of cases, experiences and faculty signatures indicating completion of the statement. Optional competencies in parenteral conscious sedation and hospital dentistry are accomplished through separate protocols defined by the faculty in charge of those experiences. Completion of the conscious sedation protocol is designed to prepare the resident for obtaining a Conscious Sedation Permit from the Idaho State Board of Dentistry.
