Pack Your Course Content

January 29, 2025

Dear Faculty,

Have you logged in to ISU Canvas yet? Canvas will soon replace our current Learning Management System (LMS), Moodle, and your courses will be open for students on August 20, 2025.

Although this is a big change, we’ve helped you by breaking the process into manageable steps you can follow every month. As you start preparing to move your courses from Moodle to Canvas, it might be helpful to compare it to moving to a new home.

Before moving, you clear out old items to start fresh in your new place. Similarly, transitioning to ISU Canvas involves reviewing and organizing your course materials. This process ensures that only the most relevant and valuable content is transferred, creating a cleaner and more efficient learning space.

Start packing up your Moodle ISU course by following these steps:

  1. Request a Moodle Development course: This will be your workspace to organize materials for the move, like a storage unit. Use the form Moodle: Special Course Request Form.
  2. Copy course material into the Moodle Development course: Transfer your course content to a Moodle Development Course.
  3. Delete unused Activities and Files: Remove outdated or unnecessary materials to streamline your content.

For additional information and support:

  • Bookmark the Canvas Transition website: For the most up-to-date information on the transition to ISU Canvas, visit the Canvas Transition Website. (You can also log in to ISU Canvas from that site.)
  • Attend Curious About Canvas: Join the ITRC for open office hours to ask anything about ISU Canvas and the transition. Every Monday and Thursday at 2 pm via Zoom.
  • Attend a Wednesday Webinar: All webinars will be focused on the steps you need to take to pack, move, and unpack your course. Register for a Wednesday Webinar.

You don’t need to wait for summer. By following the small steps laid out for Spring 2025, you can have your courses moved in time to have an enjoyable, worry-free summer.

For questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the Office of Academic Affairs or the ITRC at (208) 282-5880 or itrc@isu.edu.

Sincerely,
