Reed Gym Pool

Our newly renovated 25-yard pool features six lanes, UV filtration and sand filters, dynamic lighting, Spectrum starting blocks, and upper balcony spectator seating. Men's and women's locker rooms, showers, changing facilities, and sauna are available.

Usage Fees

  • Activity-fee-paying ISU students with current Bengal ID can swim at no charge.
  • Faculty, staff, spouses, alumni, and community members with an active gym membership can swim at no charge.
  • Pool-only day passes are available for purchase at the Student Recreation Center front desk.  The cost is $5 per person (ages 2 & older) for a pool-only day pass.

Lap Swim 

  • Only lap and fitness swimming permitted during lap swim times. Lane space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis; no reservations will be taken. Lap swimmers are required to share lanes and circle swim.  Children and those wanting to recreate should visit the pool during Combo Swim.

Combo Swim 

  • During combo swim, lane ropes designate three lap swim lanes. The other half of the pool is open for free swim and recreational activities.

Aquatic Programming

  • Information about swimming lessons, water aerobics, stand up paddle board yoga, activities and events forthcoming.

Free Family Hours

  • Members of the Student Recreation Center are allowed to bring their tax dependent children (to age 19) to use the facilities for free during free family hours.  Free family hours are offered during all combo swim times at the pool.
  • Only the member’s tax dependent children are eligible for free entry during family time.  Free family hours do not include spouses, siblings, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, etc. People purchasing day passes or using a 10-punch pass are not members, and therefore are not allowed to bring in their children for free during family hours. Those purchasing day passes must pay for their children to use the facility.
  • All minors entering under this benefit must stay with and be directly supervised by the member who is with them. Visit Minors in the Facility for more information.

 

Pool Use Frequently Asked Questions 

How much does it cost to swim?
Activity-fee-paying ISU students with current Bengal ID cards can swim at no charge. Pool use is included in gym memberships purchased by faculty, staff, spouses, alumni, and community.  Kids under age 2 are free and must wear a swim diaper. Gym use day, punch, and week passes include pool use, or a pool-only day passes are available for purchase at the Student Recreation Center front desk for $5 (ages 2 and over). 

Do ISU faculty, staff, spouses, and FS-retired need to buy a membership or purchase a day pass to swim?
Yes.

Where do I buy a membership or a day pass?
Patrons are able to make any purchase at the Student Rec Center front desk, located down the hall from the pool, during an open gym hour. This includes punch passes, new memberships, and renewals as well as setting up payroll deduct. Cash, debit/credit cards, and Apple Pay or Google Pay accepted.   

What is the difference between “lap” and “combo” swim? 
Lap swim is for continuous swimming. Lap swimmers are required to share the lane and circle swim to accommodate multiple users per lane. Combo swim is half lap swim and half open recreation with three lanes designated for lap swim and the other half open for free swim and recreational activities. Children and those wanting to recreate should visit the pool during Combo Swim.

What is the water temperature?
We will keep the pool between 84 and 85 degree Fahrenheit.

Can I bring my kids to swim for free?
Free family hours for ISU students and gym members occur during combo swim. Students’ and members’ children (to age 19) may swim for free at these times. Children entering the pool outside of combo swim must purchase a day pass. Members must remain on deck with their minor children.

How do I sign up for swim lessons?
