In this talk, I provide an overview of photojournalism as it relates to changing media. Whether images are used in newspapers, TV, or on the Internet, the underlying principles of journalistic visual storytelling remain constant. This session provides an opportunity to discuss this concept

For art or journalism classes, this talk presents a basic introduction to photography beyond cameras found in our smart phones and other electronic devices.

Careers in Photography: Having a Job that is Fun!

What’s the point in having a boring job? Photography is used in all aspects of life and there’s a niche that might be right for you. This presentation looks at career options in professional photography, including: advertising, magazine, fashion, corporate, industrial, and news. In other words, there’s more out there than just shooting senior portraits or weddings!

Anchor Standard 3: Refine and complete artistic work.

MA:Cr3.1.III Synthesize content, processes, and components to express compelling purpose, story, emotion, or ideas in complex media arts productions, demonstrating mastery of associated principles, such as hybridization.

 

Anchor Standard 6: Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work.

MA:Pr6.1.III Curate, design, and promote the presentation and distribution of media artworks for intentional impacts, through a variety of contexts, such as markets and venues.

 

Visual Arts

Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.

VA:Cr1.2.IIIa Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices, following or breaking established conventions, to plan the making of multiple works of art and design based on a theme, idea, or concept.

 

Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.

VA:Cr2.2.IIIa Demonstrate understanding of the importance of balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images, materials, tools, and equipment in the creation and circulation of creative work.
