Professional Licensure Disclosure Industrial Cybersecurity Engineering Technology

Idaho State University is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), and is reporting this information in compliance with Standard 2.G.3.

As of June 2020, the state of Idaho does not require professional licensure for the field of cybersecurity. We are unaware of any states that require such licensure.

Cybersecurity professionals frequently obtain professional certifications offered by for-profit or not-for-profit entities. Many employers require or prefer professionals with such certifications. For example, the United States Military provides a robust description of cybersecurity certifications required for certain positions: DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certifications

Students in ISU’s Industrial Cybersecurity Program prepare for and take an exam from a recognized professional cybersecurity certification body, such as (ISC)2 or CompTIA.

Employers in the field of industrial cybersecurity may notice the GIAC GICSP certification, which students exiting the program are partially prepared to obtain.

If you intend to seek licensure outside of Idaho after finishing the Industrial Cybersecurity program, we recommend that you contact that state’s licensing agency directly before beginning the ISU program.
