Tobacco Cessation

Tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States, and most smokers who try to quit will make an average of 5 - 7 serious attempts to quit before they are able to kick the habit for good. At the ISU Wellness Center, we understand that smoking is both physiologically and psychologically addictive, and we invite you to join us in a judgment-free zone to take this step to improve your health and quality of life.

The ISU Wellness Center offers the Freshstart® tobacco cessation program, an evidence-based program from the American Cancer Society. The program consists of four one-hour classes offered over four weeks. During the classes, the participants learn how to stay motivated and overcome obstacles in the path to becoming tobacco-free. Participants learn about various methods of quitting, develop a personal plan, set a quit day, and then utilize the support of the group, as well as newly learned techniques to stay tobacco-free.

For more information about the Freshstart® program, or to express your interest in attending the classes, please contact the ISU Wellness Center at (208) 282-2117. Scheduling information for the classes will be posted on the Wellness Center homepage and the Wellness Center's Facebook page.

Healthy Bengal Q&A

The ISU Wellness Center strives to keep all ISU Bengals healthy! A way to achieve health is by being knowledgeable about health. We know that there are many sources of health information available to ISU students, faculty, staff, and the non-ISU community. However, we want to ensure that the health information you obtain is accurate, reliable, and up-t0-date.

Healthy Bengal Q&A is an online question and answer forum. You can submit your health question, and our Wellness Center health educators, personal trainers, and ISU dietetic interns will provide an answer. We welcome questions related to appropriate alcohol use; tobacco and other drugs; fitness, nutrition, and weight management; sleep habits; and stress and time-management.

You may ask your question anonymously to ensure your privacy. We encourage you to ask any question you may have about your health. If there is a question we cannot answer, we will offer suggestions for other ISU programs and services where you can find the answer.
