Coordinator for Music Education

The Bachelor of Music Education is a nine-semester degree program designed to prepare students to teach music in secondary and elementary schools.

The Idaho State University Music Education program is comprehensive and certifies you to teach K-12 in all musical areas: Instrumental (Band & Orchestra), Choral, and General Music

You will be more marketable for jobs with training in all areas. Other programs may NOT be K-12 certified.

ISU has a near 100% placement in jobs for recent graduates.

Recent successful graduates have found music teaching positions throughout Idaho, Washington, Arizona, and Wyoming. Idaho Teaching Certificates transfer to all 50 states.

"I have had the opportunity for the past 15 years to help many ISU music students with either their bit teaching projects and/or student teaching.  Working with these music students has been a pleasure.  I have found all the students I have worked with to be very prepared musically.  I have had three student teachers in past few years and felt like each of them were ready to meet the challenges of the future in education.  I know a music education degree is not only time consuming, but very stressful because of the skills students are expected to possess.  These three students used not only their current skills to find success in my classroom, but also added to their skills to build confidence in areas that were difficult.  I look forward to continue to help build great music educators for our wonderful state."

Kerrie Tolman, Alameda Middle School Pocatello District #25

"The ISU student teachers I have worked with have been professional, well trained, and eager to learn. Thank you ISU for making a difference in music education!"
