Brown has worked as a body image activist for the past seven years through performances, writing and art.

In August 2015, Brown stood in the middle of a busy public market in downtown Boise wearing nothing but a black bikini and blindfold with markers in her hands and a sign at her feet asking people to draw a heart on her body if they believed that all bodies are valuable.

What followed was an hour of compassion and support and a wider breakthrough of the body positive movement.

A video of Brown’s performance quickly went viral on social media and is currently standing at 200 million views.

Brown will share her personal experiences and discuss the recent stand for self-love through an intersectional approach combining theories of feminism, art history, motherhood, social activism, social media and more.

Her keynote address will combine historic and contemporary work of feminists, performance artists, and fat activists, giving Brown’s story a larger context and framework.

Please RSVP for the event. For more information about this topic, please contact Stephanie Richardson at 208-282-3590 or email at richstep@isu.edu.
