The residency offers sub-internships and clinical electives in family medicine for third- and fourth-year medical students. Rotations last four weeks. Applicants must have completed their third-year family medicine clerkships prior to beginning their rotations at Idaho State University. Third-year Clinical Outpatient Elective rotations are limited to student applicants from the University of Washington and University of Utah only.
A variety of benefits are available during your rotation including the arrangement of on-campus housing (upon request), a $50 hospital cafeteria meal card, Internet access, and reimbursement for a 30-day parking pass at Idaho State University.
Rotation slots are typically reserved for current medical students who are licensable in the State of Idaho, who have a strong interest in family medicine, who possess ties to the Southeast Idaho area, and who desire to interview for a spot in residency. Students should complete the on-line application to be considered.
The residency offers a sub-internships/clinical electives in family medicine for fourth-year medical students. The sub-internship is a two-week rotation working as a member of the Family Medicine Inpatient Hospital Team. Students should expect a broad experience including ICU, placement of central lines, and ventilator management consistent with our program's emphasis on preparation for rural practice. While on the service, you will function as much as possible as a first-year resident. Students will spend two weeks of their time (depending on the sub-I requirement of your school) seeing patients in the Pocatello Family Medicine Clinic.
The clinical elective for this rotation is more flexible and may include inpatient and outpatient family medicine, obstetrics, nursing home care, sports medicine, emergency medicine, and community health center experience. Interested students are encouraged to call to discuss specific preferences. Third-year Clinical Outpatient Elective rotations are limited to student applicants from the University of Washington and University of Utah only.
