You will see no podiums, screens, or anyone doing the usual "talking head" routine. Tonight, your experience will be mainly that of talking with and participating with others rather than of "being talked at." When you experience talks tomorrow, they will be mostly for your enjoyment or will be short and lead into a useful interaction. For the Tuesday's pre-dinner activities, this sheet is a how-to-do-it-well set of directions. Tuesday's Orientation schedule is on the back of this sheet, so you can pace these first hours well. DIRECTIONS Pick up a large "trick-or-treat" bag with the ISU logo. This is for treats--no tricks! Proceed down the first two tables and take one of anything that you see in multiple items. The Manila file jacket can hold paper handouts from booths. Use the bag as needed to collect any other materials provided from around the room. We will be back in this room at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. If you don't want to carry your bag on the bus or to the Red Lion Reception tonight, you may leave it here for tonight and retrieve it tomorrow if you wish. Pick up a nametag, the pen, and the yellow-orange sheet titled "New Faculty Orientation-The Perfect Match." The gummed label with your name on it, located just past the nametags, is to allow easy identification of your bag in the morning, if you leave it here tonight. Just peel it off and attach it somewhere on the outside of your bag. Keep the pen and sheet out of the bag and go have a seat at one of the round tables. If you see a table with less than four people seated at it, they are waiting for you--go join them. Use "The Perfect Match" sheet to get acquainted with a few other new faculty at your round table. Much information on it relates to learning about the Pocatello area. As soon as you have met one another, keep the pen handy, and pull the stapled white handout "New Faculty Orientation—Services Scavenger Hunt" from your bag. You'll be scavenging together for knowledge and information. The handout is alphabetical; so are the booths in the room. You'll want to verify that you've gained the intended information by filling in the blanks and lines. Proceed from your table in a group of three to five people and start at any unoccupied booth. If you go from booth to booth in small groups, you'll learn more and complete the hunt faster. You'll be able to hear answers to questions together rather than having to query your service providers individually, and others in your group will be able to hear answers to your questions.
