Graduation Information

This web site was created to provide you with important information to help you prepare for graduation.

Graduation Application

Application for graduation should be submitted one semester before your anticipated graduation.

How To Apply

    Undergraduate Students
  • In person: Contact the Office of the Registrar located in the Museum Building, Room 318, (208) 282-4225 or (208) 282-4874
  • On-line: via BengalWeb
  • Click on the Academic Tools tab, then click the Apply to Graduate link under the Graduation Planning channel.
  • The online graduation application for May 2012 will be available via BengalWeb until March 2, 2012. After this date please contact a graduation specialist at the numbers listed above.
    College of Technology Students
  • In person: Student Services Office located in the College of Technology (Roy F. Christensen) Building, Room 184, (208) 282-2622
  • On-line: BengalWeb

Deadlines

  • Graduation applications must be submitted no later than Friday of midterm week of the semester in which you plan to graduate, but should be submitted one semester before your anticipated graduation
  • Transfer Work
    • All pending transfer work and correspondence work must be reported to the ISU graduation staff in the Office of the Registrar.
    • Official transcripts with transfer work (including correspondence courses) must be received no later than four weeks after the date of graduation.
  • Incomplete Grades
    • All incomplete (I) or in-progress (IP) grades received in ISU courses must be cleared prior to posting of degrees for Undergraduate students.
    • Change of grade forms must be received in the Office of the Registrar no later than two weeks after the date of graduation.

Degree Requirements

For information on specific degree requirements, refer to the academic catalog from which you are completing your graduation requirements. Also, speak to your major advisor often.

    Helpful Graduation Tips
  • Complete at least 128 total credits for a bachelor's degree. If you are using the 2011-12 Catalog you will need to complete 120 total credits for a bachelor's degree.
  • Complete a minimum of 36 upper division credits for a bachelor's degree.
  • Know what general education requirements need to be fulfilled for your degree.
  • Understand requirements for your major and/or minor. Talk to your advisor.
  • Check course content in order to avoid repeating previously taken courses.
  • Any deviations from university policy should go through the petition process. Get the changes in writing and keep a copy for your records.

Resident Credit Requirements

  • For questions regarding ISU resident credit requirements, refer to the academic catalog from which you are completing your graduation requirements.

Diplomas

    Graduation/Diploma Fee
  • All candidates for graduation are required to pay a $20.00 graduation/diploma fee per degree.
  • Failure to pay the diploma fee may prevent the release of any transcripts you may order.
    Payment Options
  • Login to your BengalWeb account and click on your Finances tab
  • Check or money orders should be sent to the ISU Cashier's Office
  • Make checks payable to ISU

    Diploma Address
  • Diplomas will be mailed via first class mail to the address indicated on the graduation application.
  • Notify graduation staff in the Office of the Registrar of any change in your diploma mailing address.

Honors Designation

    High Honors/Honors
  • Students who secure minimum grade point averages of 3.33 and also are in the top 10% of their respective college's graduating class graduate with honors. Those in the top 5% graduate with high honors.
  • The base for high honors/honors designations will be determined from every December's graduating class and will then be applied to May and August graduations.
